Books and Information on PACS and Dicom

If your looking to Learn more about PACS and DIgital Information and Communication in the Medical Industry you'll find the best way is by reading. We offer many great books on PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and also DICOM (Digital Information and Communication). Learning how the Information is handled,Stored,Retrieved, and Managed can aid you in seeking a Job in the Medical Industry which often Pays extremely well.

Books On Pacs (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems)

Unfortunately Schools today only offer a small glimpse about Pacs, so if you want a more in depth understanding these Books on PACS or Picture Archiving and Communication Systems can help you to further your education and specialize in the area of Digital Information in the Medical Industry.

What is Pacs?

When it comes to how Digital Information is Moved, Stored,Managed and Retrieved with Image Presentation Such as Digital Xrays. Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) allows for this information not only to flow properly but to also be protected to keep the patients information Private. PACS aids the Medical Community in its Digital information needs and makes the handling of this Digital Information an Excellent and Necessary Tool to bring down the cost of medical expenses, Improve faster responses to a Patients needs and to help reduce the cost to patients. Pacs is a combination of Hardware and software that enables the proper flow of digital Info to happen in the Medical Community.

What is DICOM?

Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) has become the Standard in the Medical Community for for handling, storing, printing, and transmitting Digital information and Pictures in Medical ImagingCommunity. DICOM helps not only in the movement and storage of this information but also in the protection of data manipulation and handling by defining the file formats and also the Protocol for Network Communications.

TCP/IP or Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the Communication Protocol that allows the sytems within a Dicom Network to communicate with each other. Files that are often sent from system to system in the medical community can include Patient Data, Xrays Images, and are sent securely and protected in a Dicom Format as they are exchanged between two or more systems.

Standards were developed early on so that Venors of both Software and Hardware could use the standard to help ensure that all equipment within a Dicom environment could communicate together smoothly allow for Integration of all systems within the medical environment to share information. Before the standard was developed many Vendors offered their own systems which proved to be a disaster as many of them could not share data. This caused many Hospitals and Doctors offices problems with handling the valuable information they collected. Many of them had to start over with software and hardware as their earlier investments in equipment and software were just not capable of True DICOM.

Who Developed the DICOM Standards?

National Electrical Manufacturers Association better known as NEMA. A DICOM Committee was formed to develop and improve the standards for the manufacturers of all medical equipment and software which increased not only the information flow in the medical community but also the reliability of this information being able to flow from device to device and software platform to saoftware platform. In other words NEMA has made it possible for the Medical Community to see a smooth transition into what is now a Digital Medical Community that works more efficiently and fastter then ever! Thank You NEMA!

What are DICOM Classes and what specifics does Dicom accomplish?

From the integration of hardware such as printers, servers, scanners, storage devices, digital xray film machines,Printers, and data viewing software, Dicom allows for all these devices and software to run together flawlessly. Well that was their intent and in most cases everything is integrated with little or no problems. Unfortunately some vendors try to add in their own info or specifics on their equipment and or software which makes integration not always as easy as one would want. Because of DICOM though PACS systems can now work together, Share info,Store, Retrive, Print and etc with very few problems.

Medical Information Jobs

With the technicalities associated with Dicom and PACS there are jobs that have been created such as a PACS Administrator who helps to ensure the proper communication and Integration of both Dicom and PACS. This person also maintains the PACS System and enures that everything is working well and monitors the data and proper flow of information. This person would also be responsible for the integration of any new hardware or software added into the system such as viewing stations, storage devices, printers and et..Medical Digital Information Systems are here to stay and many jobs will be created along with better care and can even save lives as the speed of care and accuracy about a patient also increases.
